Guppyfriend Bags: What, How, & Why

The Guppyfriend washing bag is now available on our site! Not familiar with Guppyfriend? Scroll down to learn what it is, how to use it, and (most importantly) why to use it.

What?

The Guppyfriend is a laundry bag designed to catch any microfibers shed from clothing in the washing machine It is made from untreated polymade, a soft fabric that not only catches the microfibers, but also extends the lifetime of the garment washed inside.

How?

Using the Guppyfriend is nice and easy:

1. Put synthetic textiles into the Guppyfriend. Do not overfill. Separate colors.
2. Close the Guppyfriend and wash as usual.
3. Take out wet textiles after washing.
4. Remove the released microfibers from the upper corners inside of the Guppyfriend and dispose properly.

And that's it!

Depending on where you live, the microfibers can be collected and then recycled. It is suggested to collect the microfibers in a recyclable container, and then disposing of them properly based on the rules and regulations in your area. It is important to keep them in the container when they are disposed in order to prevent the microfibers from being released into the environment. Because they are so small, even the wind can pick them up and drift them away.

When you are ready to get rid of the Guppyfriend, it is fully recyclable.

Why?

The reason behind the Guppyfriend is simple: TOO MANY MICROPLASTICS! Microplastics are polluting our Earth, from the land to the water, and are now making their way into our diets, humans and animals alike. Just in the ocean alone, there is an estimated 51 trillion microplastics. And, what exacerbates the situation is that they are nearly impossible to collect because of their size. The Guppyfriend prevents the microplastics from entering into our environment, and provides us with a solution to discard of those microplastics properly, rather than allowing them to turn into pollution.
